Our Street Piano Project Was Conceived With The Intention Of Creating Opportunities For Strangers To Meet Through Music Who Would Otherwise Never Cross Paths, As Well As To Provide Access To And Expose Hidden Talents In The People Around Us.

As an artist, I’m passionate about creating public art that also increases the public health of our communities through human connection.

As an educator, it is important to me that children get to simultaneously experience having fun while participating in something bigger than themselves. Creating this art project for the community involves breaking the rules: by hand painting a big fancy instrument — the piano! The painting process is purely improvisational and collaborative, lends itself to the innate creativity and whimsy of everyone’s inner child, and is truly thrilling and inspiring to witness.

Once installed, it is an incredible experience to see the often-surprising amount of talent and passion hiding in plain sight around us. People get to meet strangers that we would normally walk past everyday without even saying hello — and hear their individual stories of who they are, where they're from, and how music came to be a part of their inner lives.
