Cindy Lam is at the top of the list of up and coming collaborative pianists in Los Angeles.
Sought after by world class musicians, she has had the pleasure of performing with critically acclaimed and celebrated multiple Grammy winner, American cellist Lynn Harrell; violinist Bruce Dukov, former concertmaster of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra; Katia Popov, concertmaster, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra; Paganini Competition prizewinner and LA Opera concertmaster Roberto Cani, and virtuoso violinist Linda Wang.
Born and raised in the Pasadena, California area, Cindy Lam began her piano studies at the age of three, and has studied with world-renowned pianist Daniel Pollack, a prizewinner of the 1st Tchaikovsky International Competition. She graduated from Polytechnic School in Pasadena and the USC Thornton School of Music with a degree in Piano Performance and additional extensive study in Music Education and Pedagogy. Cindy is also a prizewinner of the Brentwood-Westwood Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, as well as the Torrance Symphony Young Artists’ Concerto Competition.
Cindy has performed in venues such as Walt Disney Concert Hall with the USC Thornton Symphony under Maestro Carl St. Clair (Pacific Symphony), and Royce Hall with the American Youth Symphony under David Newman. Recently, she appeared alongside Colburn School faculty violinist Sam Fischer in a faculty recital.
Cindy made her chamber music debut with violinists Bruce Dukov and Katia Popov and the California String Quartet, named by The Beverly Hills Outlook as the 2009 Instrumental Ensemble of the Year. Her performance was described as “impressive” and “sensitive.” She gave her debut solo recital in Alfred Newman Hall at the University of Southern California. She has also performed in chamber music concerts in Italy as arranged by the Zephyr International Chamber Music Festival.
Cindy is very committed to community and charitable causes, particularly education and children’s issues. She performed in a highly successful benefit concert for the Joseph F. Garabet Foundation, and the Children’s Concerts by the Shumei Arts Council. She has helped raised funds through music for Discovery Arts, which brings the arts to children hospitalized with cancer, and One Heart Source, which provides housing and education for AIDS orphans in Africa. Upcoming in 2012, she will be appearing with Katia Popov in a series of classical music outreach concerts in schools across Los Angeles, and will be featured in a major fundraiser for the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units at the The Huntington Memorial Hospital hosted by the San Marino Chapter of the National Charity League Jr’s.
